MY STORY
The truth is that I’ve not always lived in this flow, in this ease, in this embodiment of Soft Power. Like many others, for much of my life, I lived in survival mode.
As a single mother, domestic abuse survivor, and a woman carrying the weight of unhealed inner wounds, I did the best that I could do with what I knew at that time—protect myself, perform and push through to prove that I could do it all. Boy was I good at it (or so I thought). See, on the outside, I looked the part. Confident. In Contol. Successful. But on the inside, I was a mess! Internal chaos—overextending myself, constantly in performance mode, people pleasing and functioning in my masculine energy (I didn’t know it then) - just to feel safe and in control.
And then, life delivered a wake-up call I never saw coming.
Let me take you back to 2019. I was dating a gentleman. He checked off every box on my list. You know, most of us single ladies have a “list”. Well, one day during an argument, he turned to me and said words that pierced right through me:
“Mia, you’re so beautiful… but damn, you make it so hard to love you! Why are you so tough?.”
I was offended. How dare he? He knew very well what I’d been through. See, being “tough” had kept me alive. It was my shield, my protection, my survival mechanism. In that moment, with my guard up, walls high, I told myself I didn’t need him. I was not willing to lose myself AGAIN, this time with someone who would ignore my past, my pain and my truth.
But the real truth? That moment saved me. It cracked something open inside.
I realized that while my toughness had served me for most of my life, it was now keeping the news out. My survival skills were no longer serving the NEW woman I was BECOMING.
I lost a good man because my masculine armor was suffocating my feminine heart. It left me wondering… “Mia, what else are you losing?”. I was losin out on A Lot! New possibilities. New connections. New opportunities. I realized that my pain was also costing me business and as a High Achiever, that didn’t sit well with me either.
But that heartbreak became my breakthrough.
It led me to a new part of my healing journey—the path that led me to discover *SOFT POWER*, without sacrificing my ambition and authenticity. I learned to heal, embrace and embody my femininity; and then I began to rise powerfully.
I didn’t just rebuild myself—I redefined what power looks like for me, for my daughter and for women like me:
Not force, but faith.
Not striving, but surrendering.
Not chaos, but calm.
Not hustle, but wholeness.
